Young Serbian actor and director Luka Grbić, Jana Riemann, a member of the Berlinale Shorts team, and Kruno Trninić, a young Croatian director, are part of this year’s OFF Generation Shorts jury!
Luka Grbić is a Serbian theater director and actor whose creative work spans theater, film, and television. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in theater directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana and also holds a degree in acting from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. As a director, Luka has brought contemporary theater texts to life, including “It’s Not July Yet” and “Gas On”, an original work by AGRFT Ljubljana. His acting work includes more than ten professional productions such as “The Son”, “Yankee Rose”, and “The Idiot”, performed in leading theaters across Serbia and the region. He has also acted in film and television, including “South Wind” (2018), the TV series “The Well” (2022), and the film “The Duke and the Poet” (2023).
Jana Riemann is a programmer, curator, and cultural worker with extensive experience in film festival programming and event management. She studied film at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (BA) and Freie Universität Berlin (MA). Since 2021, she has been a member of the selection committee for Berlinale Shorts and previously worked at the Berlinale as a location manager and Q&A moderator. Jana has curated and led programs for festivals including Duhok IFF, Cottbus Film Festival, Kurdish Film Festival Berlin, and Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin, contributing to the selection of both short and feature films. Her curatorial work often focuses on social themes, such as the project “Women’s Roles in Socialism and Beyond”, and she is dedicated to promoting underrepresented voices in cinema.
Kruno Trninić is a 24-year-old director and screenwriter from Zagreb. In 2019, he was the creative director of the audiovisual program for the 80th anniversary celebration of the Fifth Gymnasium at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. That same year, he co-founded and led the school’s film group and mentored it for a project for the Zagreb Tourist Board. In 2020, he enrolled at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, graduating summa cum laude in 2023. His debut narrative short film, the action-comedy “Initial”, is currently in post-production, and this year he is set to produce two more shorts — the psychological drama “Apollon Club” and the folk horror “The Girl”. He also served on the jury for the inaugural Best Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Rendez-Vous with French Cinema festival, organized by Unifrance and Film at Lincoln Center in New York.
OFF Generation Shorts is a competitive short film selection of the Youth Film Festival Sarajevo, aimed at young professionals and recent graduates from film academies up to the age of 36. This selection puts a special focus on thematically relevant films for young people that center on the challenges of contemporary society, generational issues, and the need for change. In 2025, OFF Generation Shorts will feature 15 films.
